WikiMaster Quiz-a-thon in Lagos on July 6-7

The WikiMaster Community is growing. In Nigeria, the WikiMaster User Group met up for a quiz-a-thon on July 6-7, 2018. It was a great success. Over 65 students from different Universities showed up in Lagos. During July 7-31 these students produced over 6500 multiple choice questions related to Nigeria, West Africa and Africa in General. A great way to get the local content in focus.

Ayokanme Oyeyemi is leading the WikiMaster Nigeria User Group. This was the first event held after the WikiMaster contest was held in January 2018. This time even more people showed up to create questions in WikiMaster and play Quiz challenges. In Wikipedia, only 1.3% of the articles are produced in Africa. This bias makes the stories and World facts from the African Continent underrepresented.

As a younger Community, WOK tries to emphasize on the parts of the World were the Wikipedia usage is lower than average (such as in Nigeria where only 27% of the mobile users use Wikipedia). By creating questions on the Wikipedia articles in relation to Nigeria and West Africa the win/ win situation of higher usage and more usefulness for students hopefully will bring more users to read the Wikipedia articles and to both learn more about the subjects related to the country and what's relevant to West Africa curriculums. Our ambition is to get the old exams as practice as similar to SAT in the USA and other exams around the World already accessible in WikiMaster.

This ambition is great besides the fact is great fun to meet up and play challenges!
